Additionally, SPARC hosted a raffle, offering a spring basket as a prize to add excitement to the event.

Desert Water Agency and Palm Springs Disposal Service Workshop

Residents had the opportunity to engage with the Desert Water Agency and Palm Springs Disposal Service to learn about essential sustainability practices. Attendees gained valuable insights into water conservation programs, efficient landscaping techniques, overseeding, and methods for identifying potential water leaks. Additionally, participants received guidance on proper recycling and composting practices.

The Palm Springs Disposal Service provided an in-depth overview of the items that belong in each bin, how to assess recycling scores, and the new California legislation, SB 54. This law holds manufacturers accountable for redesigning their packaging to comply with updated recycling protocols, marking a significant step in environmental responsibility.

As a thank-you for their participation, all attendees received a free compost bucket and a swag bag from the Desert Water Agency.

Arthritis and Exercise Class at Hacienda Valley

SPARC, in partnership with OnLOK, hosted an informative Arthritis and Exercise class at Hacienda Valley. The session began with an introductory seminar on the various types of arthritis and their impact on different joints. The presenter covered the most common forms of the condition, including gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, providing valuable insights into each.

Participants were then guided through a series of simple stretches and exercises designed to alleviate daily stiffness and inflammation. Movements such as sit-to-stand, leg lifts, shoulder blade squeezes, and calf raises were demonstrated at the front of the class. These exercises, sourced directly from the Arthritis Foundation, were easy to follow and aimed at improving joint mobility and comfort. The presenter also encouraged attendees to utilize the Arthritis Foundation website as a helpful resource for ongoing support and information.
